Reflecting on My Net Zero June Journey 🌱

At the beginning of this month, I embarked on a personal challenge to scrutinize my carbon footprint and implement four strategic pillars that I believed would help me achieve my net zero goals. Here’s the breakdown of my strategies and my reflections on how each aspect unfolded:

Energy Efficiency: I kicked off with a commitment to boost energy efficiency in my home. While I was already subscribed to a renewable energy plan, I found room for improvement. I diligently turned off all electronic devices on standby, limited my use of high-energy appliances like the kettle and hot tub, and even dialled down my refrigerator’s temperature setting slightly—which, to my surprise, did not impact the freshness of my food. It's small steps like these that contribute to larger goals!

Sustainable Travel: This month was particularly hectic with the launch of ecoRescue, limiting my travel needs. However, an exciting opportunity to see Kings of Leon in Bristol arose, and I opted for sustainable travel options. I took the bus and used electric scooters around the city—a fun and eco-friendly experience I highly recommend!

Waste Reduction: One of my most conscientious efforts was in reducing waste. I avoided pre-packaged goods, especially those in plastic. I purchased fruits and vegetables loose, mostly from local stores rather than large chains, supporting both the environment and local business.

Education: On a personal level, this month has been immensely enriching. I dedicated time each week to learn more about our environmental impact and shared this knowledge with others. The advice and comments from many of you have been incredibly insightful and encouraging.

As I reflect on these initiatives, I'm inspired by the tangible changes I've made and the knowledge I've gained. This journey doesn’t end here; I am excited to continue exploring ways to live more sustainably and share my experiences with all of you.
